Minya Travel Guide
The town of Minya is the capital of Al Minya
Governorate. The name of the town is derived
from its Egyptian name "Men'atKhufu", but
the name may also originate from the town's
name in Sahidic Coptic (Tmoone) and in
Bohairic (Thmone).
Formerly, the name could also refer to a
famous ancient Egyptian tradition, or
possibly near one of the local ancient
sites, known as the bride of the Nile.
Howevewr this was a sacrificial practice of
sinking the statue of a woman into the River
Nile as a token wife for the annual flood to
come high and early.
Also the city of Minya was from most of the
sites, it used to be infinitely preferable
to Mallawi as a base for excursions. The
provincial capital, it derives considerable
charm from the old villas built by Italian
architects for Egyptian and Greek cotton
magnates.
